In Feng Shui, there are five different materials that you could have in your house that can create varying emotional responses. Having too much or too little of these materials can cause different emotions and behaviors.
The five materials are: wood, water, metal, earth and fire. Each one of these materials has a corresponding shape and color associated with it in Feng Shui.
If You Feel Like:
- You or someone in your house is very OCD, very Type A, extremely particular, speaks frequently without thinking, is obsessive in general, obsessive about weight and/or constantly to-do listing. If this is the case it might mean you have TOO MUCH metal, gray or white and/or circle shapes.
OR
- You or someone in your house is just kind of mentally blah, lacking creativity and/or unable to make things happen? If this is the case, it might mean you have TOO LITTLE metal, gray or white and/or circle shapes.
If there is too much OCD, obsessiveness, etc., do this:
Go to the room where you (or the OCD person) spends the most time. If possible, remove excessive gray and/or white objects, metal objects and/or round objects. Then, and/or if that is not possible, add in “water” materials. This can be explicitly water – a vase filled with water and flowers, a fountain (if appropriate for the area), or anything else that contains water. You can also add the colors blue or black and any free-form objects – think cloud or puddle-shaped objects.
It is especially important, when assessing the room to look at what is considered the “Creativity & Children” area of that room.
To locate this area, stand in the doorway of the room and face into it. Look at the right wall/side of the room. Mentally divide that area into three equal-sized squares. (Do the best you can. If a square is not possible, just aim for three equal-sized spaces on that side of the room.) The middle square is the “Creativity & Children” area.
This is the area where it is most important to look. Is there a LOT of gray and/or white, metal and/or round shapes? If so, look at removing them and adding more blue or black, free-form objects and/or water (as described above). If you have the energy for it, then do the same thing in the room you (or the OCD person) uses the second most, third most, and so on.
If you lack creativity or live in a mental fog, do this:
Go to the room you, or the person with the mental fog and lack of creativity spends the most time. Stand in the doorway of this room and face into it. Look at the right wall/side of the room. Mentally divide that area into three equal-sized squares. (Do the best you can if a square is not possible, just aim for three equal-sized spaces.) The middle square is the “Creativity & Children” area. This is the area where it is most important to look, if you are feeling uncreative and/or generally mentally meh.
If there are any object explicitly related to fire (candles, photos of fires, photos of exploding volcanoes), the color red and/or triangle shaped objects – remove them if possible. Then add, gray and/or white, round shapes and/or metal to this area. If you have the energy for it, then do the same thing in the room you (or the OCD person) uses the second most, third most, and so on.
If you happen to have a fireplace in this area, try adding a round, ideally metal, mirror, above it.
Feng Shui Tip #1 : Nothing you add needs to be seen to work. Feel free to put something behind a piece of art, behind a couch, in a drawer, etc.
