Hey Kiddos! In teaching Feng Shui and in selling my book, I learned that younger ones, such as yourself, like Feng Shui too. How cool is that? Feng Shui can help adults and not-yet-quite-adults with a quite a bit including: helping you to learn a new skill, do more creative things, earn (or even get) extra money, do better in school, have fun and nice friendships, stay healthy and more. I have put this blog post together to help you get these things by Feng Shui’ing your bedroom.
Step 1: Learn the 9 Different Areas of Your Life Where Feng Shui Can Help
Feng Shui helps young people in nine different areas of their lives. These areas are:
- doing well in school or learning a new skill
- keeping your family strong and happy
- earning or getting extra money
- maintaining a good reputation and being respected
- helping to have fun and nice friendships
- supporting you in something you do creatively or helping you learn a new creative talent
- supporting you in getting to travel somewhere you have always wanted to go
- helping your wishes come true
- keeping the overall energy in your life and what is important to you strong and positive
Step 2: Learn How to Find the Different Parts of Your Bedroom that Correspond to These Various Areas of Your Life
Each one of these areas where Feng Shui can help are related to a specific part of your bedroom. To locate the specific area of your room you are interested in imagine laying a big tic tac toe board over the floor of your bedroom. TIP: If it is helpful, and if your parent(s) will allow, you can put masking tape on the floor to help you better see the tic tac toe board. Each one of the squares in this tic tac toe board, is related to one of the different areas of your life listed in Step 1.
NOTE: Some squares represent two different areas such as helping your travel dreams and wishes come true. Both of these are in one area. (See image below.)
To begin locating where the different areas in your room are, first determine where your door is in relation to this diagram. Your door will be in one of the three boxes at the bottom of the diagram.
If your door is towards the left side of your bedroom, it is in the Skills & Knowledge area. If you door is more in the center of the room it is in the Good Life Energy area, and if your door is more on the right side of your bedroom it is in the Wishes & Travel area.
Now that you have located where your door is in relation to the diagram, you can locate the other areas. For example, if you wanted to work on your wishes coming true you would stand in the doorway of your bedroom and point to the lowest right area of your imaginary tic tac toe board on your bedroom floor. If you wanted to try and earn (or get) extra money, you would stand in the doorway of your room and point to the farthest and left most corner of your imaginary (or taped off) tic tac toe board. This the Money area of your room. What to do in these different areas is described in Step 4.
NOTE: In diagrams for adults, some of the names of the different areas are a little different.
Step 3: Know that You Can Feng Shui Only One Area, A Few Areas or All Areas
Of these different areas, do not think that you need to do them all! You can pick one, two, a few or all of them. Do what feels fun to you to start. If you want to do more you always can!
Step 4: Pick What You Want to Start with and Follow the Tips Below
Feng Shui has a LOT of tips to help you with different areas of your life. Here are a few Feng Shui tips to help you in the different areas.
- To Do Better in School
- Go to the Skills and Knowledge area of your bedroom.
- Here, make sure there is not anything that distracts you from your school work. (Perhaps there are toys, games, other fun things that sometimes take your attention away from getting your school work done.)
- Then, put symbols of how you want to do in school in this area. For example, if you want to do better in Spanish, take an old Spanish test (or print off a fake Spanish test online) and put a big A+ on the top of it.) If you want to keep doing well in your literature or reading classes, put one or a few of your favorite books here.
- To Make Your Life As Easy As Possible
- Go to the Good Life Energy area of your room.
- Clean up any messes, clutter, dirt and dust from this area. It is important that any clutter you have be completely removed from your room, and if ok with your parent(s), also removed from the house.
- In order to have an easier life, you need to have easy energy flow (this is the primary reason you need to get rid of dirt, dust, clutter and messes). To allow energy to flow freely into your bedroom, it is important, to the extent possible, that you remove anything hanging on the back of or behind your door because this prevents the door from easily and completely opening.
- Help Your Wishes Come True
- Go to the Wishes and Travel area of your bedroom.
- Get or make a silver container with a top. This can be a silver box you have or you can make a box out of tinfoil, out of paper you colored gray or silver and wrap around a box or you can use a soup can (just make sure you put tape over the sharp edges of the can so you don’t cut yourself.)
- Then, take different small pieces of paper and write your wishes on them. Write them as if they have already come true. For example, you would write, “I am so happy I got the grades I wanted to this year!” “I am excited I got to play soccer this spring” “I am glad I got to go on vacation to the beach this year!”
- Travel Somewhere You Have Always Wanted to Go
- Go to the Wishes and Travel area of your bedroom.
- Put symbols, objects or reminders of the place where you want to travel. For example, if you want to go on an African safari, put books about Africa in this area or put pictures of animals in Africa (you can just print some off the internet).
- It is good to keep the idea of travel and vacation in this area. For this reason, the Wishes and Travel area is a great place to put reminders, photos or souvenirs from previous trips you enjoyed.
- Support Your Family
- Go the Family area of your bedroom.
- Here, place happy pictures or reminders of the people in your family.
- Stay or Get Healthy
- Go to the center of your room. This is your Health area. TIP: Sometimes, you don’t have anything in the center of your room to put place objects on, if this is the case with you put the recommendations below as close to the center as you can. (We are not aiming for perfection here – just progress :).)
- In this area you can put one or a few of these things: symbols or objects that remind you of the sun or stars, anything that makes you laugh or smile, the colors yellow, orange or red and/or anything that reminds you of health or feeling healthy. If your parents would allow you can also, hang a crystal such as this one from the center of your room to promote health.
- Be More Creative
- Go to the Creativity area of your room.
- Put symbols, reminders and objects of how you would like to be more creative. For example, if you want to paint more – put your painting supplies here. If your room is not a good place to paint, put some of your favorite paintings, some of your recent paintings and/or paintings you love. (Remember you can always print favorite paintings from the internet.) If you want to write, put your laptop or journal here and/or put books of writers who inspire you.
- Earn Extra Money
- Go the the Money area of your room.
- Get a container (either yellow, green, red or purple is ideal). You can also take an old can or box and cover it with paper you colored with crayons, paint or markers. In this container place spare change, any old gift cards with a little bit of money on them, any old jewelry you or someone in your house no longer wears, fake money from games or anything else that represents money.
- This area is also a great place to put your piggy bank or any documentation you have about your savings account.
- Get and Keep Respect and a Good Reputation
- Go to the Reputation area of your room.
- Put any symbols or reminders of your accomplishments here. For example, if you are proud to be on the soccer team put a picture of you playing soccer here, if you won any awards inside or outside of school put them here, if you are proud of learning to fish put a picture of you fishing here (or maybe this is even a great place to store your fishing pole).
- The Reputation area of your room is also a great place to put objects, reminders or photos of what you would like to be known for. For example, if you want to be known for being really good at science, put your science books here or a picture of your favorite scientist. If you want to be known for being the best track star in school, put pictures, symbols or reminders of running here.
- Help Keep and Get Strong Friendships
- Go to the Love and Friendship area of your bedroom.
- Put pictures, reminders and mementos of your friends and your memories of them in this area.
- You can also put symbols, reminders or mementos of activities you like to do with your friends or would like to do with them in the future.
Super Important Feng Shui Tip #1
To help all of the things you want to happen – it is very important that the energy of your room feels very good. Things that make your room feel bad include messes, clutter, dirt and dust. A good way to identify something as clutter is anything you do not love dearly or use yearly. In looking at your room if there is anything that does not fall into one of those two categories – either loving dearly or using yearly – you should ask your parent(s) if it is ok to give it away, throw it away or recycle it. The cleaner your room is and the less clutter it has – the more quickly and more likely what you want to come into your life – will. Also note, it is important that anything you add to your room in the Feng Shui process does not make your room look cluttered or messy.
Super Important Feng Shui Tip #2
What you just learned above applies exactly the same for all rooms of your house. If you have a play room you want to Feng Shui, the exact same rules and recommendations apply. If your parent(s) allow, you can use these same rules to do other rooms in the house.
