Using mirrors in Feng Shui can be powerful and easy tools to attract the life and outcomes you want. Below are 19 tips on how to use, and not use, Feng Shui mirrors in your home.
#1 In your Dining Room
The Dining Room in Feng Shui represents your ability to hold onto wealth. Think of your dining room as reflecting your bank account. As mirrors can expand the appearance of a size of a room, they are ideal in the Dining Room. In other words, the bigger your dining room looks, the bigger your bank account looks.
#2 In Front of Your Desk if Your Back Faces the Door
Ideally you would have your office Feng Shui arranged so that your desk is in the “power position” facing the door. If you desk is in a cube or you just can’t have the ideal position for your desk, put a mirror up so you can see people coming up behind you. So many people actually are in this situation, there was a mirror design specifically for it.
#3 In Front of the Stove if Your Back, While Cooking, Faces the Door
There are different schools of thought about mirrors and the stove, but it is commonly recommended that if your back faces the entrance to the kitchen while cooking it is great to hang a mirror so you can see who is coming up behind you.
#4 To Improve Relationships with Neighbors or to Keep Their Questionable Energy Away from Your House
If you have neighbors who are not your most favorite, one way to help keep their energy at bay is to have a mirror pointed at their house. This mirror can be indoors or out and does not need to be visible. You can have it in a closet, cabinet, behind art on the wall etc. pointed towards their home. Be careful if putting it outdoors as mirrors can start fires – which would most definitely not improve your relationship with them.
#5 Do NOT Point a Mirror Towards Your Bed and Ideally Don’t Have Mirrors in the Bedroom
Mirrors have a lot of energy to them that can prevent restful sleep. They also are a water element that can drown out love and passion. If possible, mirrors out of your bedroom. If that is not possible, make sure they are not facing the bed.
#6 Never Use a Cracked or Broken Mirror
Anything broken in Feng Shui is bad Feng Shui – and broken mirrors are no exception. Get any broken mirror fixed or, if possible, remove it from your home.
#7 Hang Mirrors So You Can See Your Head and Shoulders When You Look in Them
To prevent any strange reflections or versions of yourself, hang mirrors so you can see your head and shoulders when you look into them.
#8 Avoid the “Fat” Mirror
You know those mirrors you look in and think – I know I am not that fat. Avoid those types of mirrors and any others that distort how you look.
#9 Place a Mirror in the Main Entrance of Your Home
As mirrors in general are considered to be water elements and water is important near the front door – it is good to hang one near your main entrance. HOWEVER, make sure the mirror is not pointing out the door as this takes energy out of the house.
Also make sure the mirror is not square. A rectangle mirror is ideal. Extra credit for the mirror being black or gray. (If you are looking for mirrors and don’t want to spend 11 hours wading through 147,000 online, I like this modern, simple rectangle mirror .)
p.s. The Main Entrance to your home is the door the architect of your house would consider the primary entry.
#10 To Attract or Keep a Great Career Use a Mirror
To locate the Career area of a room, stand in the doorway of the room you want to Feng Shui. Mentally divide the lower area of the room, the portion of the room closest to the door, into three equal spaces. The middle area is the Career area. Place a mirror in this area to attract or keep a wonderful job. Just like for the main entrance, do not use a square mirror in this area, rectangle is best and extra credit if it is black or gray. (See link above if you would like a recommendation for a mirror.)
#11 Use Mirrors to Attract Helpful People and Travel to Your Life
To locate your Helpful People and Travel area, stand in the doorway of the room you want to Feng Shui. Point your right arm to the right most corner of the room. This corner is your Helpful People & Travel area. A mirror in this area can help attract Helpful People and Travel to your life. It is ideal if the mirror is metal and either gray, white, silver or black. (The mirror I love that I recommended above comes in silver too if you are so interested.
#12 Strategically Place a Mirror to Keep or Attract Love & Marriage

Extra credit if the mirror is black, blue, green, metal or wood or a combination there of.
#16 Do NOT use Mirrors in your Reputation Area
Stand in the doorway of the room you want to Feng Shui. Mentally divide the far wall into three equal spaces. The middle area is the Reputation area. Do NOT put any mirrors here.
