If you could move a few things in your home attract more love, money and happiness – why on earth wouldn’t you do it? Want in? Here are 35 Feng Shui basics to get you started!
- The main entrance of your home is where all the energy of your home enters. It has more influence over the overall energy of the house than any other area. Make sure it feels VERY welcoming. Clear it of every piece of clutter, dirt, dust and mess.
- No dead plants. Ever. No exceptions.
- Avoid having heavy or large things hanging over you anywhere you would sit, sleep, or lay. People who have heavy things hanging over them in places they spend a lot of time, frequently feel like they always “have things hanging over them” in life.
- If possible, avoid cactus and opt for round leafed plants. Cacti tend to attract prickly, icky energy whereas round-leafed plants attract soft energy.
- To attract or keep a loving relationship in your life have identical objects in two around your home – especially in your Bedroom and Love & Marriage area of any room in your house. (To locate the Love & Marriage area of a room, stand in the doorway of the room and face into it. Point to the far right corner. This is the Love and Marriage corner of the room.)
- Similarly, to keep outside forces, people and problems from interfering with your relationship avoid having items in threes – especially in your Love & Marriage area and Bedroom.
- The stove is critical to the home and Health. Keep it immaculate.
- Other things that are no bueno are anything that feels negative or brings up bad memories. Get rid of them.
- Having a hard time determining what is and is not clutter? Everything in your home should be something you either love dearly or use yearly. If it doesn’t fall into these two categories, to the extent possible, get them 100% out of your life.
- People with weight issues often have clogged and cluttered pathways, doorways, drawers, closets and / or homes. They also tend to have “heavy” objects in their homes such as rocks, over sized furniture and/or symbols or photos of large animals (e.g., elephants and whales).
- Keep toilet seats down and drains closed to avoid energy from – er – going down the crapper.
- Keep drains free flowing. Clogged or slow moving water in drains can cause you to feel stuck or for things that you want to move quickly in your life – to move slowly or stop. (Here is a non-toxic declogging trick that I always use. I do find I have to do it multiple times and sometimes let it sit overnight, but it does do the trick and it keeps our earth safe and happy.)
- You can never have good Feng Shui if you have excess clutter, dirt, dust and/or messes. If you don’t know where to start – consider the area immediately inside and outside of your front door, the kitchen or your bedroom.
- Fix all doors that don’t work correctly. Poorly functioning doors often create situations where the energy in your home is not quite right and/or bringing people or scenarios into your life that aren’t quite right.
- Try not to store anything behind doors as it block energy flow.
- Keep pathways clear – in the house and outside.
- Having a hard time getting a job? Worried about your job? Make sure your front entrance is immaculate, without any clutter, anything negative and without storage. Put symbols of the job you want or want to keep near the front door. Potential symbols could be a business card of someone who has a job that you would like or someone who could help you get your dream job; a piece of paper with your name and the title of the job / company you want to work for; a picture, book, symbol or other memento that reminds you of the job you want or of what you would be doing at this job and/or a copy of the job description for the role you want. Feel free to put these things in a drawer, behind or under something – nothing in Feng Shui needs to be seen to work.
- Have your bed up against a solid wall and arrange it so you can see the door while laying in bed.
- Avoid having your bed directly across from the door.
- Avoid king-sized beds, they tend to create “too much space” in a relationship.
- Keep pictures of anyone but you and your partner out of your bedroom. Pictures of other people in your bedroom tend to have those same people interfere with your relationship.
- If your bed is up against a window and you can’t move it, place red tape under the window sill or window frame to prevent outside energy from coming in and to prevent your energy from leaving.
- Avoid sleeping next to sharp objects – this often leads to shoulder pain.
- If you are sick or are trying to heal a particular print off the flower of life and place it under your bed, under the area of your body you are trying to heal.
- If your stove faces a wall so you can’t see if someone is approaching you, put a mirror up above the stove. And bonus, this not only prevents the feeling of someone being able to sneak up behind you, it also “doubles” the number of burners you have, and in Feng Shui, the more burners you have – the more wealth you have.
- Avoid skeletons and skulls in the house where addiction is, has been or could be a problem.
- If possible, have your bedroom in the back of the house. This is the more protected area of the house and will help with sleep.
- If possible, have your office in the front of the house. This is the more energetic side of the house and it will help opportunities find you more easily.
- Make sure your door is clearly visible from the street to ensure opportunities can come your way. If necessary, trim trees and bushes, add a flag(s) to the front porch, place pots of flowers or plant flowers to show the pathway to your door, have your address where your driveway meets the street, etc.
- If you have a staircase that is in direct alignment with your front door place red tape under the lip of the bottom stair, on top of the molding of the door and/or place a red rug between the bottom of the stairs and the front door. People who have staircases in direct alignment with the front door often feel like as soon as something good comes in their life it immediately leaves and/or that they can never get a hold on things.
- Keep a money jar in your Money area of the room or rooms you use the most. Put spare change in it frequently and try to never remove it. To locate the money area of a room, stand in the doorway of the room and face into it. Point to the farthest left corner of this room. That corner is your Money area.
- Avoid fake plants and flowers. Fake plants and flowers attract fake people, things and experiences. (They also collect a ton of dust – another Feng Shui no-no.)
- Park your car facing away from the house if possible.
- Nothing you add in Feng Shui needs to be seen. You can put things in drawers, behind furniture, behind things on the walls, etc.
- And one of the more important Feng Shui basics – do what you can, when you can and don’t stress the rest.
