To make Feng Shui easy, this is how I teach people to use the Bagua Map. The main difference between the way I do it and others do it is: some say to start with laying the Bagua Map over the footprint of the house and then go to a room or rooms in your home. I start with laying the Bagua Map over a room, and then, if you would like, you can lay it over the footprint of the house. It is equally as successful and SO. MUCH. EASIER.
Here’s how to use the Bagua Map in a room:
- Go stand in the doorway of the room you use the most.
- Imagine a giant tic-tac-toe board on the floor of the room. This giant tic-tac-toe board is your Bagua Map. NOTE: If your room is not a perfect square or rectangle, some of the squares of your tic-tac-toe board might be larger or smaller than others. This is ok. The idea it to do the best you can. (See examples below.)
- Then, if you want to work on Money look at the farthest left corner of the room, and make your changes there. If you want to work on Health, look to the center of the room. If you want to work on Love, look to the farthest right corner of the room. Your Career area is in the middle of the room that shares the same wall as the door where you are standing and so on. (See examples below.)

Are there other areas of my life the Bagua Map can assist with?
Yes! The different squares of the Bagua Map represent many other things including: emotions (negative and positive), different family members, different times of the day, illnesses, different seasons, body parts and more. See these different Bagua Maps here.
What do I do if the room I am Feng Shui’ing has more than one entrance?
If your room has more than one entrance, use the doorway you would most likely enter through if you were coming into the room from the Front Door of the house. The Front Door being the door the architect of the home would consider the main entrance.
What do I do if I have a home with an open floor plan?
If you have an open floor plan, you can consider the entire space one room, or you can divide the space into the Kitchen, the Living Room, Dining Room etc. If you want to divide your open floor plan into multiple rooms, use the area where you would most likely enter the Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room etc. as your “door”.
What if when I imagine the Bagua Map / tic-tac-toe board over the floor of my room, I can’t make 9 equal-sized squares?
That is not a problem. Do the best you can. Not all areas will be exactly the same size, and that is ok.
It is not necessary but you could, if you were trying to attract love for example, and the Love area of a room was really small, you could add something little to it, and then make a few changes in other Love areas in different rooms in your home. Alternatively, if for example, the Money area of a room was very large you could use this to your advantage and add extra things to this area because of its additional space. NOTE: Nothing should be added in Feng Shui that hurts the aesthetic of a room. In other words, go easy on what you add. Clutter and messes are not good Feng Shui. 🙂
Do I have to Feng Shui every area in every room?
Nope. Do whatever areas you want in whatever rooms you want. You can do just one, some or all life areas in one, some or all rooms. Start small if that feels better. Then, see what shifts. If it shifts to where you want it to be, then you are done. If nothing has shifted, or you still desire more change, do a little more.
Which room do I start with?
I usually recommend that you start with the room you use the most but feel free to begin with whichever room feels best to you.
